Our Orchard

How does it work?

The basic idea is this - we deliver a box of organically grown seasonal fruit and/or veg to your door. You won't know precisely what will be in it, but you know you will be getting the very best the season has on offer. Most of our customers want this delivery on a regular basis - usually weekly, or fortnightly.

How do I get started?

Ordering is easy - you can do it online or over the phone. Then sit back and await your first delivery. We'll call you a few days after that to check if you were happy with it and to confirm whether you want a regular delivery.

Do I have to call you to order every week?

No - once you decide that you are happy to have a regular delivery, we'll treat that as a standing order and deliver every week (or fortnight if you wish) and you only need to tell us of any changes to this arrangement.

Can I ask for certain varieties to be left out of my box? What if I can't stand cauliflower?!

Let us know of any dislikes and we'll exclude those, and you'll have replacement varieties instead.

Can I find out a little more about what will be in my box?

Just go to the What's in my box? button on the homepage of the website from Monday afternoon onwards and you will find a list of the expected contents in our bestselling boxes.

I'm not sure the box idea is for me. How can I order exactly what I want?

We sell a huge array of fruit and vegetables separately, by weight. Feel free to make up your own order and we'll deliver it. Minimum total order is £10.

How do I pay?

The easiest option is to give us details of your debit card, then we'll take a monthly payment. If you ever cancel a delivery you have already paid for, we will automatically carry this credit over to the following month.

What other payment options are there?

If the debit card arrangement isn't for you, we are happy to accept cash on delivery, cheques of at least £20 or one off debit card payments. Credit card payments incur an additional fee of £1.50 per transaction.

So I'm getting a weekly delivery. What happens when I go on holiday?

No problem - just tell us any dates when you won't be needing a delivery. We need a minimum of two days notice please - so, for instance, by 4pm on Monday if you have a Wednesday delivery. Just give us a call or drop an email.

I'd love a delivery - but I'm at work all day.

Most of our customers are out when we deliver - or still in bed, as we start deliveries very early in some areas! Our delivery drivers and distribution agents are very adept at leaving your box in the right spot. So let us know where you would like to box to go - perhaps in your porch, at the back door, in the green house, under the patio table, in an upturned recycling box, or with a neighbour - ask them nicely first! If you can't think of anywhere you would be happy to leave your box perhaps we could deliver to your work address instead.

The day you deliver in my area doesn't suit me - can you deliver on another day?

Afraid not - we only deliver in each area on one day each week, keeping food miles as low as possible.

My box has just arrived - and I'm not happy with it. What do I do?

We endeavour to please all our customers all of the time, but once in a while things can go wrong. If you are ever unhappy with any aspect of your delivery, please let us know as soon as possible and we'll do all we can to put things right. If we can, we'll correct the delivery immediately, if we can't, we' ll do so as soon as possible or offer financial compensation.

My box hasn't arrived. What do I do?

Let us know if an expected delivery hasn't arrived and we'll find out what's happened and tell you as soon as possible.

Is there a delivery charge?

No. The price you see on the website is what you pay.

What do I do with the empty box?

Please leave your old cardboard box out for collection each time you are expecting a delivery. This is a really important part of our business. We collect the old boxes and use them around half a dozen times before finally recycling them. This keeps packaging to a minimum and unnecessary costs down. We are also keen to have back the cardboard punnets you will sometimes find in your box.

What about the egg boxes and empty apple juice bottles?

Unfortunately we are not able to reuse these so please recycle them with your other household waste.

Why don't you deliver to the whole country?

As far as Boxfresh is concerned, organic and local go hand in hand. From our two bases in Shropshire and Herefordshire, we deliver in two roughly circular sixty mile areas. This means we cover a fair swathe of the country and are larger than many box schemes, but we are still a sustainable business model. We have no plans - or desire - to go national.

Is everything in your boxes local?

Around 80% of the veg in our boxes is local. We also use produce from further afield in the UK to provide greater range at key times of the growing year, and we also use some imported veg and a wider range of imported fruit. This is all certified organic, so grown to the same rigorous standards as the homegrown stuff. And nothing is ever air freighted.

How do I know where the produce comes from?

Check the website - the What's in my box page lists the provenance of every item in our most popular boxes - a unique Boxfresh feature.
