We are the very proud owners of the beautiful Upper House Fruit Farm in Putley, Herefordshire. In 2007 we teamed up with our sister company, Flights Orchard Organics, to buy this seventy acre farm. Another buyer could easily have grubbed up the trees and turned the land into pony paddocks or covered it with polytunnels, so we were delighted to have the opportunity to manage and restore this established organic orchard in one of the traditonal heartlands of English fruit growing .
Set in a gently rolling landscape with distant views of the Malvern Hills, Upper House Fruit Farm is primarily planted with apple trees - we currently have 14 varieties including Red Pippin, Falstaff, Kidds Orange and Early Worcester. Our very first apples of the year, Discovery, are ready to eat in August, with other varieties storing right through to the following February. We also have pear and plum trees, and a thriving flock of organic hens lives happily among the trees - hens are ideal inhabitants of an organic orchard as they provide a natural form of pest control.
As well as the fuit that we grow going into fruit and veg boxes, we juice and bottle any outgraded apples to make the most wonderful single variety or mixed juices.
There are always at least a couple of events open to our customers throughout the year - a springtime invitation to come and see the orchard in blossom, an apple picking event in the autumn, but as a public right of way runs through the orchard, please feel free to come for a walk and discover the beauty and tranquility of the landscape for yourself.
