Our GrowersOur growing community is at the very core of Boxfresh. These farmers and growers are so much more than mere suppliers. They are loose collective that we work in close partnership with by planning crops and agreeing prices in advance and supporting them to get the best product out of their farms. We are generally in touch with them on at least day to day basis.

Adrian & Julia Blackshaw Adrian & Julia Blackshaw
Complementing our own apple production the Blackshaws grow eight varieties of apple on their 25 acres in Herefordshire. These include Discovery, Cox, Kent and Bramley.
Alan and Sandra Payne Alan and Sandra Payne
Growing in over five acres of glasshouses in Almley, Herefordshire, the Paynes are specialist salad growers, sepcialising in lettuce. They have an eye for the unusual, such as hot wax chillies and purple peppers.
Barry James Barry James
Based in central Herefordshire, Barry has a 250 acre mixed farm encompassing veg, sheep and beef. A lifelong farmer, he produces potatoes, carrots, purple sprouting broccoli, cabbage and curly kale.
Bob Mason Bob Mason – Merrivale Farm, Kingsthorne, Herefordshire
Like Boxfresh director Des Walker, Bob is a fellow native of the North East transplanted to the Marches to great effect! Bob swapped the wilds of Co. Durham for the wilds of Herefordshire in the 1980s and took on this 220 acre farm. Converting to full organic status some 7 years ago he grows a wide range of crops for us that cover brassicas, roots and fruit. Also famous in the county for his state of the art robotic milking machines which has put paid to the traditional milking parlour at Merryvale.
Caroline & Ian Handley Caroline & Ian Handley
Based in Bromyard, Caroline & Ian have been growing organically since 1996 and grow for us a great range of summer fruits including tayberries, blackberries, currants and rhubarb. Their fruits form the basis of our famous summer berry boxes.
Francis Sampson Francis Sampson
Somewhat of an anomolay in our growers group being based in deepest south west Cornwall, Francis benefits from a milder climate so has early cropping potatoes, spring greens and cauliflower. His crops are ready long before our local suppliers, enabling us to avoid turning to imports at key times of the year.
Jeremy Helme Jeremy Helme – Turkey Tump Farm, Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire
Alongside wife Piggy Jeremy grows vegetables on around 70 acres and often focuses on less run of the mill items such as Jerusalem Artichokes and asparagus.
John Davenport John Davenport
John's own Flights Orchard Farm gave it's name to our fledgling business back in '01 and since then John has been one of our key farmers. Growing on fertile land just outside of Ledbury, Flights Orchard Farm continues to provide us with key staples such as a potatoes and beetroot as well as protected crops such as our famous salad packs and aubergine.
Mark Lea Mark Lea – Greenacres Farm, Kemberton, Shropshire
Mark is a third generation Shropshire farmer growing on land just outside Shifnal. Already an experienced arable and beef farmer he diversified into veg production in '04 and has since then become one of our key farmers growing a range wide range of veg that covers salad items, beans, root veg and brassicas.
Michael Moorhouse Michael Moorhouse – Cefn Goleu, Meifod, Powys
Michael Moorhouse gave up managing banks in the mid 1990s to take on an organic smallholding in the beautiful rolling hills just outside Welshpool. His smallholding has 15 acres rammed full of poultry that produce us the best free range hen, duck and turkey eggs.
Nick Taylor Nick Taylor – Home Farm, Astley, Shropshire
Coming from a Shropshire family that has been farming in the county for around 300 years Nick can trace his lineage back at least 10 generations. Nick has honed his skills on the family farm over the last few years and it now runs to total of around 1500 acres. The farm now produces a significant amount of pigs and vegetables. Rhug Estate exclusively use Nick’s pigs in all of the pork products that we sell and veg production has increased over the last couple of years to add baby leaf spinach and parsnips to his traditional output of potatoes, carrots and onions.
Pete, Mary & Rob Jeynes Pete, Mary & Rob Jeynes
The Jeynes’ Merryvale Farm in Ombersley, Worcestershire has been organic for well over a decade. The grow a wide range of crops including carrots, parsnips, purple sprouting broccoli and their signature crop, sweetcorn.

Based near the stunning Black Mountains in west Herefordshire, Phillip grows potatoes, carrots and parsnips, plus sweetcorn and kale.

New kid in town Richard grows primarily salad crops on 5 acres just outside Newent in Gloucestershire.
Richard Norman Richard Norman
The Normans’ family farm is a long established affair – it’s even mentioned in the Doomsday Book. Running to over five hundred acres, just outside Leominster, Richard farms a large selection of seasonal vegetables, including cauliflower, celeriac, broccoli and spinach. In addition to veg production, the Normans also boast the oldest established herd of Herefords in the county.

With over 40 years organic growing experience Roy has been around so long that he really knows what it takes to produce the very best soft fruit. Roy provides us with a great range of soft fruit from his 7 acre nursery in North Shropshire.
